The Postal Museum in Clerkenwell tells the story of the Royal Mail and Britain's extraordinary postal history. Beneath it runs Mail Rail, a narrow-gauge underground railway that once carried millions of letters across London. It is one of the most singular and atmospheric event spaces in the city, and one that guests talk about long after any event held within it.
As an accredited production partner, Kudos AV has worked within both of the museum's principal event spaces. The Mail Rail venue is a genuinely industrial blank canvas, with vaulted brick ceilings, exposed ironwork and a raw architectural character that requires thoughtful production to bring the best out of it. It is available for exclusive hire from 5pm on selected dates throughout the year, once the museum has closed to the public.
The museum's award winning reputation for events has been built on the back of its unique environment. Product launches, gala dinners, networking events, corporate receptions and awards ceremonies all benefit from the sense of occasion and discovery that the Mail Rail creates. Guests who have never encountered this space arrive expecting a museum and leave having experienced something genuinely different.
The spaces.
The Mail Rail venue itself accommodates up to 275 guests for a standing reception and 150 for a seated dinner. The exposed brickwork, vaulted ceilings and the tunnel structure itself provide a backdrop that no amount of set dressing could replicate. The space has a genuine sense of place and history that elevates every event held within it.
The Courtyard at street level provides a lighter, more contemporary alternative or addition to the underground spaces. It accommodates up to 120 standing or 60 seated, and is well suited to receptions, networking events and pre-dinner drinks. The combination of Courtyard and Mail Rail allows for a flowing evening experience that moves between entirely different environments.
The venue is located on Phoenix Place, WC1X, within easy reach of Farringdon, King's Cross and Chancery Lane stations. Hire is available from 5pm daily and the venue can be taken exclusively, allowing full creative control over the experience.

The Mail Rail's industrial character creates specific acoustic and technical challenges. Low brick ceilings and hard reflective surfaces require careful speaker selection and placement. Lighting in an underground environment with no natural light demands a full creative approach from the outset. Our team plans every installation in consultation with the museum's events team, ensuring safe, effective and visually compelling production throughout both spaces.

Conferences and corporate events at Mail Rail
Mail Rail gives a corporate roadshow or product launch an underground setting with its own technical demands. Speaker positions, presentation sightlines and the way guests move through the tunnel all shape the production. Kudos AV plans the sound, lighting and visual presentation around the event format, with equipment positions and access agreed with The Postal Museum.
For the Aris Roadshow, we delivered an AI conference for 150 delegates in Mail Rail, covering stage, projection, sound, lighting and branding. Producing an event at The Postal Museum
01Is a technician included, or is it dry hire?
Either. Equipment can go out on dry hire, or with the technicians and operators who install it, run the show and take it out again. Most events at The Postal Museum are crewed. Our quotes list install crew, operators and the project manager as separate lines, so you can see exactly what is included before you commit.
02Can you rig from the building's structure?
Only from points the venue approves, and never from anything the venue has not signed off. Our riggers work to LOLER and PLASA standards, with full load calculations and risk assessments completed before load in. The team works regularly in heritage interiors, listed beam structures and rooms with low ceilings, so the design starts from what the building allows.
03Is Kudos AV an accredited production partner at The Postal Museum?
Yes. Kudos AV is an accredited production partner at The Postal Museum. Our work in Mail Rail includes the AdPower community evening and the Aris Roadshow, with production planned around the programme and the museum’s spaces.
04Can you provide printed branding for a Mail Rail event?
Yes. AdPower’s event used removable wall vinyls, large printed Foamex panels, an A1 board, a pinboard and a branded DJ booth. Graphics and fixing methods are planned around the agreed surfaces and venue requirements. Explore our print production.
05How many guests fit in the Mail Rail space?
275 standing and 150 for a seated dinner underground, with 120 standing and 60 seated in the courtyard above.
06What is different about producing an event underground?
Audio, mainly. A tunnel is an unusual acoustic and the sound system has to be designed for it rather than adapted. Industrial lighting, visual production and live streaming all run down there too.
07What AV does a conference in Mail Rail need?
Start with the number of speakers, presentation content and audience layout. We plan microphones, sound coverage, presentation displays, speaker lighting and staging around the tunnel. If you need filming or live streaming, include that in the brief so camera positions and connectivity can be assessed during technical planning.
