A Members Club Wedding at The Savoy

A wedding at The Savoy, designed as a moody private members club: a bespoke gold bar, art deco DJ booth and black and gold stage with steps, walls of retro lamps and festoon light, a gold-lined dancefloor, and d&b sound for the band.

The Brief

A members club, built inside The Savoy

Working with agency Principle Global, Kudos AV turned the Lancaster Ballroom at The Savoy into a moody private members club for a wedding unlike any other. Instead of a bright white ballroom, the brief called for low warm light, black and gold, velvet and candlelight: a room that felt like a secret club that happened to live inside one of the world's great hotels.

The trick was restraint. The Savoy's rococo plasterwork, arched mirrored windows and chandeliers were left on show and simply re-lit, while everything we brought in, the bar, the booth, the stage, the dancefloor, was built black and gold so the room read as one design rather than a venue with kit in it.

The Club

A gallery of family photographs and a mirror-gold bar

The ballroom's own theatre stage became the club's drawing room: dozens of family photographs in gold frames, hung on ribbon strips beneath the Savoy's silk swagged curtains, with blush and teal velvet armchairs and candlelit brass tables in front. Guests spent the whole evening drifting up to find their own faces on the wall.

Across the room, our bespoke curved bar in mirror-polished gold caught every flicker of light, dressed with fringed velvet table lamps and towering florals (the floral design provided separately), with leopard print and botanical velvet stools pulled up to it. Between them ran the dancefloor: black, lined in gold, laid straight over the Savoy's famous carpet.

The Stage

Retro lamps, gold steps and a wall of warm light

The bespoke black stage stepped down onto the dancefloor by its own gold-clad stairs, backed by swagged black drape and a ShowTex matrix, and lit entirely from retro sources: Robe piklPATTs, vertical sunstrips, Portman P1 lamps hung like lanterns at different heights, and matrix lamp panels flanking the floor. The effect is candlelight at room scale.

The matching art deco DJ booth, in black with copper geometric linework, sat beside the drum riser and keys, so the music never stopped between the band's sets. An LED screen carried content through the evening, and the whole rig was designed and operated by our own lighting team.

The Sound & The Party

A full band on d&b, then the beams

A full live band, horns, strings, singers and rhythm section, played through a d&b audiotechnik system, V-Series and Y-Series, tuned to the Lancaster Ballroom's acoustics with sound engineered in house from soundcheck to the last song.

When the party hit, moving heads on the stage floor and the truss overhead cut cool blue beams through the haze while the retro lamp wall glowed warm behind the band, the members club holding its nerve right through the last dance.

The Venue

Weddings and events at The Savoy London

The Savoy is one of the world's most famous hotels, and its event spaces reward production that respects the room. Working in a five star landmark means quiet load-ins, immaculate cable discipline and set pieces finished like furniture, which is exactly how we build.

If you are planning a wedding, party or corporate event at The Savoy, this is the level of design and production we bring: bespoke builds, lighting, sound, LED and show operation from one in-house team. Tell us about your event.

The Builds

A bar, a booth and a stage, built for one night

Every set piece was made bespoke and finished like furniture: the mirror-gold bar, the copper-lined DJ booth and the stage, built to sit inside The Savoy as if they had always been there.
