An Out Of This World Wedding

A 550 guest wedding at the IXL Events Centre with a space theme: a curved stage with LED built into its fascia and a 7.5m curved screen behind it, portrait screens either side, a printed dancefloor and walkway, a feature bar, d&b Q-Series sound for the band, and low fog and CO2 for the first dance.

The Wedding

A 550 guest ballroom, styled for another planet

The brief for this wedding at the IXL Events Centre, Dallas Burston Polo Club, was a night out of this world: 550 guests under crystal chandeliers, planets suspended over black and gold tables, a moon filling the screen, and a room washed in deep blue and violet. Krystal Wedding Decor styled the tables, florals and suspended planets; Kudos AV, as the venue's in-house production team, built and lit everything the styling sat on.

For a room this size the technical build is the architecture of the evening. The stage, the screens, the walkway, the dancefloor and the bar were all designed together in pre-production so that every one of the 550 seats had a clean line to the stage and the screen behind it.

The Stage

LED in the fascia of a curved stage

The stage was a curved build with an 8.5m by 0.5m LED screen set into the front face, so the stage itself carried content: stars and nebula rolling along the fascia through dinner, the couple's names for the entrances, and full-motion visuals for the party. Behind it, a 7.5m by 4m curved 2.6mm Unilumin LED screen filled the back of the stage, and two 3.5m by 2.5m portrait screens either side carried live camera and content for the guests furthest from the stage.

A walkway ran from the stage into the room and onto a bespoke printed dancefloor, both printed to the space theme so the couple's entrance and first dance played out on a continuous surface from stage to floor. A large rectangular feature bar with backlit cosmic panels anchored the far end of the room.

Sound, Light & Effects

d&b for the band, low fog and CO2 for the first dance

Live sound for the band ran on a d&b audiotechnik Q-Series system with B2 and Q-Subs, designed and tuned for the IXL Events Centre and handling the band, the DJs and the speeches on one system. The lighting design moved from lilac and blue dinner washes, pin-spots picking out the chandeliers and centrepieces, to a full moving-head beam show for the party.

For the first dance, low fog rolled across the printed floor so the couple danced on cloud, and CO2 jets punched through the beams as the room went from dinner to party. Cineture captured the film and Didar Virdee the photographs; Sanjay Foods catered and Syrup Bar ran the bar.
