Full product details
The AD2 is the handheld transmitter in the Axient Digital range, and with a Beta 58A capsule on the front it is the radio microphone for a speech nobody wants to hear fail. The Beta 58A is the supercardioid version of the standard live vocal capsule, so it holds off more of the room and gives more gain before feedback than an SM58 in the same hand.
What it is for
- Keynote speeches and awards presenting
- Wedding speeches and ceremonies
- Panel hosts and comperes working the room
- Any handheld that must not drop out or be switched off by accident
- Productions already running Axient Digital receivers
How it is used
It tunes across the same wide range as the Axient Digital receivers, up to 184 MHz depending on band, so it follows the coordination plan for the venue rather than forcing the plan around it. Transmission is encrypted, and a high density mode fits more channels into busy spectrum. The power switch locks, which is exactly what is wanted on a mic being handed between speakers. It runs on AA batteries or a Shure rechargeable lithium battery, and the capsule unscrews, so the same transmitter can carry an SM58, a Beta 87C or a KSM9 instead.
What it pairs with
The AD4Q four channel receiver, a Shure UHF active directional antenna for the antenna system, and our sound engineers to coordinate, licence and run it. Where the show does not need Axient, the ULXD2 handheld on a ULXD4D receiver does the same job for less.
Delivery and support
Delivery, collection and technical support are part of every hire across London, the South East and the UK. Batteries and frequency coordination are included.
Hire questions
Shure AD2 Handheld Transmitter with Beta 58A hire FAQs
What is the difference between a Beta 58A and an SM58 capsule?+
The Beta 58A is supercardioid, so it hears less of the room and gives more gain before feedback. The SM58 is cardioid and slightly more forgiving of a speaker who wanders off the front of the mic.
Can the capsule be changed?+
Yes. The capsule unscrews, so the same transmitter can carry an SM58, a Beta 87C or a KSM9. Tell us what the speaker prefers.
Do I need the matching Axient receiver?+
Yes. The AD2 works with Axient Digital receivers such as the AD4Q, not with ULX-D. We hire the transmitters and receivers together as a coordinated system.
