The Shure SM57 has been on every stage and in every studio for decades because it does one job perfectly: put it close to a loud source and it hands back a clean, present signal. A cardioid dynamic with a tailored response and a presence boost around 4 kHz, it takes the sound pressure of a snare drum or a guitar cabinet without complaint, and its flat grille lets it sit right against the source.

How it is used
Supplied with a clip, a stand and XLR cabling, and patched into the console by our engineers. On a lectern it pairs with an A2WS windscreen; on a drum kit it usually sits alongside a Shure Beta 58A for vocals and a Beta 52 on the kick. The pneumatic shock mount keeps handling and stand noise out of the signal.

Is the SM57 good for vocals?+
It works as a spare, but for lead vocals the Shure Beta 58A or SM58 is the better choice. The SM57 is at its best on instruments and lecterns.

Can I hire the SM57 for a lectern?+
