What is an LED totem screen?

An LED totem is a tall, slim, freestanding screen that stands on its own base, so it goes wherever a printed banner would go and does the job of a video wall instead. The ones we hire are LED poster displays: a panel of real LED pixels at 1.875 mm pitch, bright enough to read in daylight, rather than a television in a cabinet.

That distinction matters when you are searching. "Digital totem" also gets used for LCD kiosk totems, the 55 inch touchscreen units you see in shopping centres. Those are a different product. Ours are LED poster totems: brighter, seamless when joined, and rated for outdoor use. Our LED totems are the LANG Foldster, a modular LED poster that we hold in stock at our Uxbridge warehouse.

The same panel scales from a single totem to a stage wall. Widths are the panel count times 620 mm, and resolution grows in step at 320 pixels per panel.

Indoor or outdoor

The panels are rated IP65, so they can be used outdoors in the rain. Ask us about the site when you enquire: wind loading on a tall freestanding screen is something we plan for rather than hope about, and we will advise on ballast or positioning where it is needed.

Content: what to send us

Each panel is portrait, 320 x 1080 pixels. For a single totem, supply artwork or video at that size, or at 1080 x 3,647 and we will scale it. For joined layouts, supply one file at the combined width (for example 1,920 x 1080 for six panels) and we map it across the panels, so the pair or the wall behaves as one screen. MP4, MOV, PNG and JPEG are all fine. If you would rather we built the content, our in-house team can design welcome boards, sponsor loops and agenda screens from your brand assets.

Delivery, set up and support

We are based in Uxbridge and deliver across London, the South East and the rest of the UK. Delivery, collection and technical support are included on every hire. Choose dry hire if you have your own crew, or supply and operate if you want our technicians on site to build the layout, map the content, run the show and take it down afterwards.

How much does LED totem hire cost?

It depends on how many panels, for how long, where the venue is and whether you want an operator. A single totem for a day is a very different job from a six-panel wall with a technician for a three-day conference, so we quote each hire rather than publishing a list price that would be wrong for most events. What is the difference between an LED totem and an LED poster?

Nothing, in practice. Both names describe the same tall, freestanding LED panel. "LED poster" is what the manufacturers call it, "LED totem" or "digital totem" is what most people search for. Where it matters is the LCD totem: a television-style touchscreen kiosk, which is a different product with a different job.

How many LED totems can be joined together?

Up to six from our stock, which gives a 3.7 m wide wall at native 1,920 x 1080. Two, three, four and five panel layouts sit in between, and the panels lock together with no visible join.

Can LED totems be used outdoors?

Yes. The panels are rated IP65 and 4,500 nits, so they work in daylight and in rain. We plan wind loading and ballast for any outdoor position.
