Full product details
A tank trap is the simplest way to stand a pole up: a heavy 600 mm square steel plate with a 50 mm receiver in the middle that takes a 48 mm barrel or scaffold pole. Put a boom arm and a lantern on top and you have side lighting without a stand in shot; put a T-bar on it and you have a freestanding lighting position anywhere on the floor.
What it is for
- Lighting booms in the wings for side and cross light
- Freestanding verticals where there is nothing to rig from
- Camera and monitor positions on a barrel
- Drape and banner supports on a pole
- Temporary signage and wayfinding uprights
How it is used
Drop a 48 mm barrel into the receiver, clamp on whatever the pole has to carry and, for tall or heavy loads, add ballast to the plate. The base has a cut-out so traps stack for transport and storage, and a tank trap dolly moves a stack around a venue. At 16 kg the plate itself is a good part of the ballast.
What it pairs with
48 mm barrels and scaffold poles, boom arms, half couplers, trussing and our rigging team when the position is carrying real weight.

Hire questions
Doughty Tank Trap hire FAQs
01What size pole fits a tank trap?
A 48 mm barrel or standard scaffold pole, which drops into the 50 mm receiver.
02How tall can the pole be?
It depends on what it is carrying. For tall or loaded poles we add ballast to the plate and, where needed, guy the pole. Tell us the load and we will advise.
03Can you move several tank traps around a venue?
Yes. They stack, and the Doughty Tank Trap Dolly wheels a stack to where it is needed.
