The Royal Observatory sits at the top of Greenwich Park, on the line of zero longitude: the Prime Meridian of the World. Founded by Charles II in 1675 and designed by Sir Christopher Wren, it is one of the most historically significant scientific buildings in existence, and offers seven distinct hireable spaces across Flamsteed House, the Astronomy Centre and the surrounding gardens.
The Meridian Courtyard is the heart of the visitor experience: an outdoor space straddling the Meridian Line itself, framed by the original observatory buildings, with panoramic views across Greenwich Park, the Queen's House, the National Maritime Museum and the Canary Wharf skyline beyond. It accommodates up to 220 guests for a standing reception under the stars.
The Octagon Room is the original observatory commissioned by Charles II: a tall north facing chamber designed for Wren's telescopes, hung with portraits of the early Astronomers Royal and offering full views of the London skyline. It is one of the most distinctive intimate event spaces in the country and accommodates up to 60 guests for a drinks reception.
The Peter Harrison Planetarium is a modern 120 seat digital theatre carved into the south side of the hill, perfect for product launches, presentations, screenings and immersive content. The adjacent Planetarium Foyer connects naturally for drinks receptions and dinners for up to 100, and the Endeavour Room provides a versatile meeting room for boardroom sessions and breakouts.
The Time and Longitude Gallery houses the Harrison sea clocks (H1 to H4), the most important objects in the history of timekeeping and navigation. It is available for evening drinks receptions surrounded by world changing horological artefacts. And the Astronomers Garden offers a magical outdoor option after dark, with the city lights below and the green dome of the observatory above.
