1675 Year Founded

The home of time. One of the most iconic venues in London.

The Royal Observatory sits at the top of Greenwich Park, on the line of zero longitude: the Prime Meridian of the World. Founded by Charles II in 1675 and designed by Sir Christopher Wren, it is one of the most historically significant scientific buildings in existence, and offers seven distinct hireable spaces across Flamsteed House, the Astronomy Centre and the surrounding gardens.

The Meridian Courtyard is the heart of the visitor experience: an outdoor space straddling the Meridian Line itself, framed by the original observatory buildings, with panoramic views across Greenwich Park, the Queen's House, the National Maritime Museum and the Canary Wharf skyline beyond. It accommodates up to 220 guests for a standing reception under the stars.

The Octagon Room is the original observatory commissioned by Charles II: a tall north facing chamber designed for Wren's telescopes, hung with portraits of the early Astronomers Royal and offering full views of the London skyline. It is one of the most distinctive intimate event spaces in the country and accommodates up to 60 guests for a drinks reception.

The Peter Harrison Planetarium is a modern 120 seat digital theatre carved into the south side of the hill, perfect for product launches, presentations, screenings and immersive content. The adjacent Planetarium Foyer connects naturally for drinks receptions and dinners for up to 100, and the Endeavour Room provides a versatile meeting room for boardroom sessions and breakouts.

The Time and Longitude Gallery houses the Harrison sea clocks (H1 to H4), the most important objects in the history of timekeeping and navigation. It is available for evening drinks receptions surrounded by world changing horological artefacts. And the Astronomers Garden offers a magical outdoor option after dark, with the city lights below and the green dome of the observatory above.

As an accredited production partner across the Royal Museums Greenwich estate, Kudos AV delivers heritage sensitive technical production at the Observatory: lighting, audio, presentation and immersive content that works in harmony with the site's scientific legacy.

The Meridian Courtyard

Standing on the Prime Meridian, with London at your feet.

The Meridian Courtyard is the iconic outdoor space at the centre of the Observatory: a stone courtyard straddling the line of zero longitude, framed by Flamsteed House and the original 17th century observatory buildings. It hosts up to 220 guests for a standing reception with panoramic views across Greenwich Park, the Queen's House and the Canary Wharf skyline. By night the green laser of the Meridian Line itself reaches across London.

The Octagon Room

Wren's original observatory. 1675.

Designed by Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke for Charles II, the Octagon Room is the first purpose built scientific institution in England. Tall windows on every face flood the room with light, the walls are hung with portraits of the early Astronomers Royal, and the room itself remains almost exactly as it was 350 years ago. It accommodates 60 for a standing reception or 40 seated, and is one of the most extraordinary rooms in London for private dining.

A 120 seat digital theatre under a real night sky.

The Peter Harrison Planetarium is a state of the art digital theatre carved into the south side of Observatory Hill. 120 reclining seats face a fully immersive dome that can render the night sky, fly viewers through the solar system, or run bespoke client content for product launches, brand storytelling and presentations. It is the only planetarium in London available for private hire.

The Planetarium Foyer is the natural drinks and dining space for events using the dome theatre. It seats 60 for a dinner or holds 100 standing, with floor to ceiling windows opening onto the Astronomers Garden and the city lights of London beyond. A perfect prelude to a planetarium screening, or a self contained space for receptions and presentations.

The Time and Longitude Gallery houses Harrison's four marine timekeepers (H1 to H4): the most important objects in the history of navigation. Available for evening drinks receptions for up to 100 guests, surrounded by the chronometers, globes and instruments that solved the longitude problem and reshaped global trade. A genuinely unique reception space with a story unlike any other in London.

A versatile meeting and breakout space.

The Endeavour Room is the working venue space at the Observatory: a flexible room that configures for boardroom meetings of 30, theatre style presentations for 60, or seated dinners for 40. It is the natural breakout for events using the Planetarium and Meridian Courtyard, providing a contained business environment a few steps from one of the most inspiring backdrops on earth.
