The Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham
Kudos AV at The Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham for the Bhangra Showdown 2016 presented by Imperial University Punjabi Society
After the huge success of Bhangra Showdown 2015 at the iconic Wembley Arena, it was time to take Bhangra to its spiritual home, Birmingham.
The Barclaycard Arena (NIA) played host to this year’s sellout show, with 4000 people packed in to witness nine of the UK’s top universities Bhangra teams battle it out for the coveted prize. The crowd were further incentivised by the performances of Bhangra superstars, Ammy Virk, Dilpreet Dhillon, Mankirt Aulakh, Resham Anmol and Desi Crew for the first time in the UK.
With it almost impossible to topple the show in 2015, Kudos AV decided to bring a fresh approach to this year’ show. Their recent work and experience at the NIA for the Brit Asia Awards 2016 allowed a unique head start to the design.
It’s important that performers as well as the audience enjoy the show, so each team were given the opportunity to provide their needs and wants, from screen content to the impact of the lighting in the run up to the event. Their requirements were then fine tuned during rehearsals on the day at the venue.
The event was once again hosted by BBC Asian Network’s Tommy Sandhu.
As customary to Kudos style, a huge array of Robe Lighting and 234 panels of Absen A3 Pro LED Screen offering a 3328 x 1152 pixel output were used as ingredients for this spectacular stage production. With D&B Audio Technik line array sound, the audience eyes and ears were treated to a feast of the best AV in town.
Our highly skilled lighting and AV technicians and operators supported by the very best technology aided a hugely successful show. Thank you to Tom grant on designing the show, Robe’s Nathan Wan as lead lighting operator and Alex Gallego on the fanatic visuals and screen operation. Congratulations to Imperial College on winning the Bhangra Showdown 2016.
